Game-Toolkit Portfolio

Games developed by partner schools

In order to allow the visitors to understand the methodology used for creating the games and to introduce each game separately developed by eMapps schools, partners created the Game portfolio. In this portfolio each game is described in three documents . Game matrix gives a short introduction of the game following a specific structure so that you can easily compare the different games. Game components contain much more details, pictures, videos and other elements to give a whole picture on the game, its players and developers. When a visitor would like to see the objects uploaded to the game, and the different elements and texts that the teachers/children had to upload to the platform, he/she has to visit the Game desk.

It is hoped that by providing access to this material, an understanding can be gained of the methodology used in creating the eMapps.com games.Each game is introduced with three main parts.

Game Matrix

Game matrix is based on a common structure in order to introduce the games to interested parties in the same format. The matrices have the following chapters:

  • School Curricula that is part of the game
  • Children cognitive profile
  • The Game Story
  • Plot Story cut and levels
  • Objects created for the game
  • Game Play (Puppet Master, Control Base, Player, Resources, Challenges)
  • Playing the game in reality
  • Conclusions and problems report

 

Game Components

Game components take the visitors to the separate websites of each school where all detailed information about their game is uploaded. It is much more detailed than the Game matrix. It includes pictures, videos, description of personal experiences, comments from children.

The Desk Game

This is the platform where the game is played. Teachers take on the role of game controller or ‘Puppet Master’ and teams of children play the game, accessing the game platform to upload the multimedia work which they produce as part of playing the game to the Game Desk . The teacher is able to continuously monitor each team’s ‘desk’ as it is maintained and updated by the teams. On the basis of a team’s success at any one level, the Puppet Master may promote them to the next level of the game.

Teachers Toolkit

The Teachers’ Toolkit is also included to the Game portfolio. Teachers’ toolkit is a separate deliverable of eMapps project, which explains the game development process to teachers, gives guidelines on technical and educational issues, provides step by step manual to the game development.

With the help of Teachers’ toolkit, each visiting teacher would be able to start developing its own game.
