Our school is a Church primary school of St. Cyril & Method, established in 1991. It was founded by the Roman-Catholic bishop office in Košice. Our school (as many other church schools in our country) is under the local parish spiritual authorities.
The educational school system is based on the curricula for church schools approved by Ministry of Education of Slovak Republic.
There are 25 classrooms at our school from the first to the ninth class. Children in the age of six starts to attend the first class of our school and they finish in the ninth class, when they are 14-15. The classes from the first to the fourth class are the first-grade classes; from the fifth to the ninth class the second-grade classes.
In the school year 2005/2006 there are 624 students at our school divided into 25 classrooms. There are 10 classrooms in the first grade with 238 pupils. The rest of the pupils (386) attend the second – grade classes.
For your project eMAPPS.com, whose aim is to produce some creative games for the children in the age of 9-12 years, we can offer about 200 pupils of our school.
The pupils of our school have the possibility to attend various kinds of after-school activities and groups of interests at our school. They attend dance, music or art lessons, play many kinds of sports, chess. We have got a school singing choir that performs during the holy masses organized at our school or in the church nearby. We also offer folk dancing-and-song lessons, where the pupils have an opportunity to show their abilities or improve their skills and learn something from Slovak cultural heritage.
Concerning teaching stuff, there are about 45 teachers in both grades teaching different subjects. The learning process takes place in 25 classrooms as well as in 8 special rooms, including school kitchen, a gym, 2 computer rooms, language laboratory, physics and chemistry laboratories and a work-room.
The pupils start to learn foreign language (English) in the third class and they continue till the end of the ninth. In the seventh class they choose another foreign language (out of German or Russian).
The school magazine Ratolest (“Offspring”) is published 4 times in a school year and the publishers are the pupils of our school guided by experienced teachers.
There is also a school library at our school offering its services to the students and the teachers.
By taking part in the international project we would like to make our Primary school of St. Cyril and Method more visible. We also wish, that a young generation (i.e. the children in the age of 9-12 years) would spend their free time more effectively, so that their activities would not only result in fun, but also in education. To fulfill this aim, our school provides teachers, who meet your needs and are enthusiastic about exploring new dimensions concerning educational process. Moreover, one of the teachers, whom I want to involve in the project, masters English language, she is very communicative and she is an outstanding specialist in the branch of Geography and History, eventually also Art. The second teacher masters computers very well, which I consider for a great advantage in this project.
I hope the Primary school of St. Cyril and Method is going to be a suitable candidate for your project.
We look forward to further cooperation with you and I hope we want to reach common aims: “To educate creative, intelligent and polite young people for the future.“
